OVERTAKING
Rule 1 of 4 in this topic
overtaking
Overtaking · Rule 1
You may only overtake on the right-hand side
In South Africa, overtaking must always be done on the right. You may never pass another vehicle on the left, except when the vehicle ahead is turning right and there is sufficient space on the left.
Think of it this way: right is right. The only left exception is when the car ahead is turning right and there's a clear gap.
QUICK CHECK
Question 1 of 2

Either side, if it is safe
Correct. You must always overtake on the right in South Africa. The only exception is when the vehicle ahead is turning right and there is a clear gap on the left.
